Default Languages

Had an interesting thought shortly after registering for Avalon... The knowledge (however basic) of more than one language may be indispensable in the near future to ease communication between various people.

Why not set up a simple, standardized language learning network? Whoever knows another language can volunteer something like a couple of hours a week to share some basic phrases and words, etc... with another person (or several, depending on constraints). We could put together a scheme that everyone can use for 'teaching'.

This can be set up rather easily over a program like Skype - ideal combination of voice and chat (and video if need be).

What do you think?

Just reply with your language skills and what you want to learn, and we will see if this kicks off.

I speak fluent Russian, basic French, and basic German.

I want to learn some Spanish (already started) and Japanese.
