Default A well planned retirement LOL

From The London Times:

A Well-Planned Retirement

Outside England's Bristol Zoo there is a parking lot

for 150 cars and 8 buses. For 25 years, its

parking fees were managed by a very pleasant

attendant. The fees were £1 for cars ($1.40),

£5 for busses (about $7).

Then, one day, after 25 solid years of never missing

a day of work, the attendant just didn't show up; so the Zoo

Management called the City Council and asked it

to send them another parking agent.

The Council did some research and replied that the

parking lot was the Zoo's own responsibility.

The Zoo advised the Council that the attendant was

a City employee.

The City Council responded that the lot attendant

had never been on the City payroll.

Meanwhile, sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain

(or some such scenario), is a man who'd apparently had a

ticket machine installed completely on his own; and then

had simply begun to show up every day, commencing

to collect and keep the parking fees, estimated at about

$560 per day -- for 25 years.

Assuming 7 days a week, this amounts to just over

$7 million dollars!

And no one even knows his name.

What a great mind to come up with such a good scam. I hope he is enjoying his retirement wherever he is.

Showed up for work everyday... [doesn't sound like city or zoo employee]

Everyone got their vehicle parked; watched; cared for....

City or Zoo didn't pay healthcare, vacations, days off...

Self motivated, ethics, he must have been thinking of retirement

and WORKING for it... I LIKE highly motivated individuals.

Jeez, and our Congress just gave themselves a $ 93,000 raise as

part of the stimulus Package and they don't do 'sfit.' See,

it's all how you look at it... I bet, he was a great attendant.

Trooly,

Tango

Thanks, for posting this Susan; it made MY day [wink].

The question is, wouldn't have accouting practices kept track of the money being brought in, regardless who employed the man? It would be something they would keep track of, I would think, even if the mans was under City employment.

Except that it's a dishonest thing to do.

I don't advocate scams of any kind.

"The meek shall inherit the Earth" ... I guess they will. :l mfao:

It's a free planet... the land belongs to everyone and if you want to pay to park then that is your choice... someone has to collect it for those who will pay!!!

i guess, the zoo - thought he collected it,
and, gave it to the city ---and, the city, i guess,
thought the zoo collected it, and, where probably happy,
that the zoo, did NOT bother them about anything,
at least NOT until he/the collector
did NOT show up at the parking lot

everyone paid cash
- and, the collector, wore his uniform,
collected the cash, kept things in order,
and, was master to no one,
except himself

perhaps if challenged, it might fall under the category of
squatter's rights
