Default Acne

So I've had a life long battle with acne. I can keep it away if I use benzoyl peroxide, 2.5%, on a daily basis, but it doesn't seem right that I need to be putting a chemical on my face everyday just to be me. I have been focusing my reiki on it, and it does help sometimes. It really just has its ups and downs. Any advice, specifically in the alternative sense and away from pharms.

Hi Gregor,

I'm a licensed esthetician who happens to use homeopathic remedies & high end natural treatments.
You may be surprised, but good old fashioned Hydrogen Peroxide will do the trick, and relatively quick.
Douse a cotton ball or cotton square in the peroxide and hold it against the infected area anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes.
It's best to do this after you have cleansed with warm water, and your pores are open.
When you're done, rinse you're face with cold water, it closes your pores and restores your natural Ph level.
Total cost $2.00

I don't know what your normal routine in skin care is, or if you even have one, but most of my male clients prefer the less is more route..
If this is you as well, I suggest Epicuren Discovery Gelle Cleanser. It'll cost you about $10.00 and is a very subtle, yet thorough cleanser.
don't moisturize, your own natural oil production will do that for you.
Try & wash your face at least twice a day, and do the Peroxide soak up to 3 times a day.
Don't pick, you can scar your skin, if you do pick, wrap your index fingers in two tissues each, and be gentle on either side of the blemish, pushing down, in & up. And only do extractions after your face has been steamed.
Diet & hormones/genetics are the biggest factor in a persons skin health or lack of.
It is Most beneficial if your body is alkaline as opposed to acidic. Here is a link to a long list of acidic & alkaline foods.
http://www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm
Be well my friend.
See your skin clear, expect it.

Hope this helps,
CW

I would also add to avoid milk and all milk products like the plague. The hormones contained in the milk are very bad for your acnea. I know my acnea has improved a LOT since i cut the milk, and i tried a lot of stuff before, that used to only provide short term improvement.

Give it a try, but keep in mind that it will take several weeks before you see a real improvement, before your body "detoxifies" from all the hormones.

Thanks everybody. I use to be a huge milk drinker so I decided to cut down for various reasons, including acne, and drink much more soy milk now. You could say a 3:1 ratio in daily consumption. However, I can't say I've seen a huge difference.

Soy is not any better. I'm allergic, and found out after a series of negative things happening in my body.
Soy is linked to infertility, breast cancer, hypothyroidism, thyroid cancer, and many other disorders.
Rice milk might be a better way to go.
Soy is oily, can be part of the skin problem as well.

Peace,

Someone told me about hemp milk last week. And being a fan of the stuff already, I think my mind is made.

A clean diet has helped out a lot, but I still deal with the problem too.

You might pick up a book by Nicholas Perricone, he has one specifically called the Clear Skin Prescription. He gives diet advice, as well as topical things one can do, supplements, etc. Depends on how far you want to go with it. I liked the book for informational purposes, but ultimately I'm not looking to buy 10 different products, be it supplements OR creams.

There is also a book called the Clear Skin Diet by Alan C. Logan (I think that's the author anyway). I have not read this one however, so I don't know how good it is. I just know the author is a naturopath.

Since I have not found a way to get away from topicals, I will exfoliate 2x/week minimum (this has helped slightly), and if I have some problem spots I soak a cotton pad with tea tree oil (diluted for skin - I think Desert Essence sells it) and hold it on the area for probably 15 seconds. That usually gets things clearing up. It's probably similar to the hydrogen peroxide someone suggested, though maybe the hyd. per. is more effective! I get the impression that stuff is awesome. (Will have to try it out!)

You can also ice the spots before doing this, to bring down inflammation. But still these things are all after-the-fact :\ I guess until we get the right prevention worked out, the little tricks are necessary!

Default Re: Acne

a few solutions:

1) drink 1 oz of water for every 2 lbs of you
ie; 150 lbs (drink 75 oz of water)

2) bad skin, is NORMALLY related to a colon,
that is stuffed full of crap
so, a good colon cleanse
90 days -1 pill per day experience by awareness
is amazing -- i've seen people drop 1/2 lb per day on it
www.workingwonders.awarenesshealth.com

3) soda pop -- don't drink it

4) try to buy products, that do NOT have GMO's
or, products that have unnatural flavours
like fc5--avoid them
if it says modified ANYTHING--put it back / don't consume it

pure trim is a great product to stock up on
it mixes with water ...living plants / high protein
www.workingwonders.awarenesshealth.com

5) do NOT drink cow's milk -- try rice milk, or almond milk, or even hemp milk

6) use cleansers on face without chemicals/or toxins
shaving cream is very TOXIC, it actually eats razor blades

www.ineways.com/workingwonders
they made a product called "close shaving gel" --
believe it / or NOT, but your razor blades never get dull ???

they also make a product -- called imperfection lotion
just put it on the spot, it goes down into the lower levels
of the skin / and, kills the bacteria, the acne grows in

(when you use things; that dry up the surface,
you actually accelerate, the bateria, that are beneath the skin, and, NEVER get rid, of it -- kill the bateria
wiht "imperfection lotion" - they also make an interesting
body wash called "refresh"...and, a product called
"1st impression cleanser" -- which avoids the need
for an astringt or balancer, because it does NOT upset
the natural mantle of protection on the skins surfaces,
just removes the bad dirt...

i have used that product line since 26, i am NOW 49,
and, i look in my early 30s ...it works

best part is; when the products go down the drain
they do NOT harm MOTHER EARTH,
in fact, they pass the 7 day river test, in 2-3 days,
and, actually help to clean up the environment

they also have safe / non toxic laundry products/cleaning products, and, even a product
that helps with hair loss -- 2nd chance

all go-green products

anyway...hope that helps

Green clay is also good for topical application, especially for hard-core cystic acne (which I still get every so often on my upper back). You can buy a jar of it (dry) at most health food places for about $4-$6. Just mix a small amount with water to a paste, apply and let dry (acne will probably require reapplication at intervals). It turns out that green clay poultices actually kill antibiotic resistant staph germs, and so they are starting to be used in hospitals for this purpose. Green clay also works great on insect bites, especially if you can put it on immediately after the bite/sting.

I also second eXchanger's remarks about drinking a lot of water. It also helps me a lot.

Peace,

Maybe less obvious, but...change of climate. More UV exposure (higher altitude) and less humidity have helped my acne drastically. Like acne barely exists for me any more after moving from KS to CO. I also drink cows milk regularly.

UV increases something like 5% for every 1000 feet above sea level.

My acne cure and defense is castor oil. I almost never "wash" my face, and I never, ever use any solvent or astringent, though I have oily Mediterranean skin.

What I do every night is spread a layer of castor oil on my face so it's like a film of oil, not rubbed in. I leave it there for at least 20 minutes and go about my business. Then I remove it with a hot wet washcloth.

It might sound strange, but have you ever used a cotton ball with alcohol or astringent to clean your face, and found that it never quite rubs clean? Well, one time I did my castor oil thing and wiped my face with alcohol and no dirt at all came off! It was completely clean!

One thing I preach about skin care is any time you try to break down the oil you are damaging the skin, because the top layers rely on fatty acid bonds to stay intact. Solvents, astringents, and I believe also glycerine break up the fatty acids. Cleansers and soaps can be too alkaline and cause damage because the fatty acids are, well, acidic.

Well take care and good luck!

Acne is the result of a Weakened Immune system. A weakened immune system is the result of INSUFFICIENT DRAINAGE. Your blood is dirty... because your liver is probably not at 100%, and as a result so are your bowels.

You probably notice that you get more acne when you eat sweet things, or oily things. The sweet things enter your dirty blood stream... and the yeasts and bacterias feed on it. Your liver is probably not producing enough bile, so all that oil entering your blood stream is leaving your body in sebum.

My suggestion to you is this! Eat only one meal a day in the evening, and make sure it has no fried foods or sugar. The rest of the day drink only water or tea with nothing added. What this does is give your body a chance to strengthen your blood... because it is not having to digest 24/7. The liver can focus on cleaning house. Aswell the yeasts and bacteria will have nothing to feed... btw the yeast and bacteria arent bad guys, they are actually helping to clear things out.

You should actually find yourself get stronger eating this way, the roman soldiers from back in the day used to eat only 2 hand fulls of rye once every evening. If you want real results... eat like this for over three months. This is roughly 3 dormant cycles for yeast... and the body should be nice and strong after. As long as you stay positive.

Anyway something for you to try out... take care, and good luck

I think it's different for different people, so try various methods from the above posts and see what works for you. I've always had bad skin with short periods of clarity, regardless of whether I was omnivore, vegetarian or vegan (so that's the diet factor). I don't think it's genetic for me because only one aunt has/had it too and I'm healthier and fitter than my family, except my mum. Climate hasn't effected it either, whether I'm in a smoggy city or cleaner landscape.

I also know plenty of people who have ****ty diets and habits/lifestyles but have clear or clearer skin, pretty much everyone I know has better skin than me lol. I know my system is clean or cleaner than theirs because I look after it (lifestyle/cleansing/detox) and the only unnatural products I use (for my body) include fibres/clothing and on the rare occassion when I do my roots. I rarely get ill and if I do it only lasts a day or day and half. I also steam and use clay but oh well.

I might give the apple cider vinegar a go and the hemp milk (I'm a rice milk fan with some almond milk now and then - haven't tried the hazelnut).
