Spirit guides

Hi everyone, I would like anyones input on the matter of spirit guides, is there anyone out there with some idea's or their views about spirit guides, as there are many contradictary ideas on this subject for eg; I have been told that our guides are us from past lives or do they have their own souls. Also it would be very nice to hear other peoples experiences with their guides & who their guides are.

I have had some experiences with guides & teachers but they have changed frequently, can anyone explain to me the process & why they change and come & go. I myself have met a new guide recently who calls himself white cloud & I have seen his face in detail, native american indian very old chiseled complection at the same time he made contact, white mist went across the room, I thought it would be just a nice thing to acknowledge them as they do alot of work behind the scenes.
