Hmmm i saw this the other day and it makes you think - perhaps they (the banks) are doing a test run???
Hope this copies here ok - this is from ABC News Australia CBA computer glitch freezes transactions Posted Fri Oct 10, 2008 10:45am AEDT Commonwealth Bank ... computer glitch (ABC News: Giulio Saggin, file photo) The Commonwealth Bank says it is working to resolve a computer problem that has stopped debits and payments to thousands of customers, including pensioners. Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) spokesman Steve Batton says about half of the transactions have now been processed. But he says it could be the end of the day before all payments are completed. Mr Batton says everything is being done to fix the problem, and no one will be left out of pocket. "We're currently working through the numbers that have been affected," he said. "We understand it's impacted a number of accounts including pension payments as well as salaries. "Unfortunately it's nationally, we experienced technical difficulties with our processing of payments overnight which has impacted both credits and debits." He says the bank expects to finalise the payments today. "Obviously we're sincerely apologetic to our customers who have been impacted and we'll of course refund any fees or any interest gaps if customers are affected," he said. The glitch has led to Brisbane bus drivers threaten to strike as their pay was unable to be processed. |
