I was at my daughter's college graduation last weekend. As part of the ceremony a group of ROTC kids received their diplomas from their local COs and took an oath which included the promise to "defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign or domestic." I commented on this and one of the kids sitting nearby said, "yeah, but what do you do when it's the people in charge who are the enemy?"
Although we can't expect all military people to be consitutional scholars and see when what they are being asked to do has crossed the line, many people in the military or who have been in the military take this oath very seriously and think about whether they are being given illegal orders. Kerry posted this link on the Camelot front page: Oath Keepers on youtube There's much more here: http://oath-keepers.blogspot.com/ Resistance is not futile. |
