A tool is being developed that I believe may be of some benefit to the ground crew in evaluating the hazards surrounding specific areas on the planet.

It is still in development but should be helpful in finding safe areas. Given a location, either a city and country name, or latitude and longitude coordinates it attempts to identify hazards in close proximity. Hazards include nuclear power plants, military installations, large metro areas, uranium mines, etc. New hazards are being input daily as we data mine the internet for new site locations. It is here: http://www.safeplaces.info |

I don't know what the averages are yet. I haven't played with the results long enough. From what I can tell so far a relatively save zone would be 4 to 6 risks that are all over 100 miles away. If you have dozens of risks less than 50 miles away then I would call that a risky area. A lot more research needs to be done, however, to come up with a good criteria.

Volcano hazards have been added. Over 1500 volcanoes around the planet were uploaded to the database.

Thanks so much for that info.

I was able to see at a glance what my hazards were likely to be (or i should say they confirmed what i already knew) in my present location and those areas i have been contemplating to be at soon. Thankyou |
