- Open to all in Mississauga area who want to "recycle" items rather than throw them away. Nonprofits are also welcome!

YOU MUST READ the files sent when you apply. Contact mod if not received. Check your junk box. Applications will not be approved without response to the questions in the file.

Please make your first post an offer.

Waiting 24-48 hrs before choosing a recipient gives those who are online less often time to reply. Consider giving charities 1st dibs.

Always choosing 1st reply shuts out deserving people, so we encourage you to use the GIFTER'S CHOICE CONCEPT instead of first come first served. Thanks!

KEEP IT FREE, LEGAL, AND APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES.

Yeah, I've been waiting for a month for my freecycle membership for the group in Olympia to be approved. <sigh> I belonged to 2 groups in Florida. It's a good thing.

total # groups X 40 items per day X 1 lb per item
= approx. number of tons saved from landfills every year through Freecycle.

So, this calculation estimates that an average of 40 items per day, per group, are posted, and assumes an average weight of 1 lb per item.

139,480 lbs / per day !!! saved from landfill

From the www.freecycle.org page, as of April 2, 2006:

Number of Freecycle™ Communities: 3,487
Number of Freecycle™ Members: 2,112,934

I find www.craigslist.com an excellent source for recycling items and finding good buys.

Be very careful of craigslist...I know someone who agreed to buy a cell phone...they were going to meet in a Church parking lot...then got held up at gun point....fortunately there were police near buy..and the police actually caught the rats.....but it was very unexpected in a church parking lot.
