Who cares?
He says he's a Christian. If he isn't- who cares? Where does it say you've gotta be a Christian. I've met more 'evil' Christians than I have 'evil' Satanists- and they worship evil! |

Too bad that all the people who know how to run the country are busy driving taxicabs and cutting hair.

Seeing as Bush swore on the bible to protect the constitution and no-one gave a hoot when he said it was just a "damn piece of paper", I can't see how anyone would object if Obama swore on the Codex Gigas.

They could swear him in on a "Green Eggs and Ham" for all I care.
How is this remotely news, (because it's certainly not an update)? |

![]() It may as well be a Dr. Suess book, considering the fact that the Bible is the absolute most drawn out game of Telephone I have EVER seen. |

![]() I was just thinking that "Yertle the Turtle" would actually be appropriate, as Dr. Seuss (Giesel) was believed to have written this as a critique or refutation of fascism. (Way deeper than anything 6 yr. old me ever considered for sure!) And concerning the bible, I no what you mean all to well. So much has been lost/hidden through translation after translation. I have about thirteen yrs. of private catholic schooling under my belt (trust me, I'm not bragging!), four of which were at a Jesuit high school. My mom was in the convent when she met my dad who had dropped out of the seminary when he was drafted. Obviously niether followed through, but they remain very devout. They are good people, but i feel they simply have too much ingrained in their consciouness to completely consider my questions. They respectfully humor me (like the rest of the fam), but I can see that they immediatley refute any premise I provide about the "Christ Story" not being unique to "Jesus of Nazareth." It's a bit rough at times but we get along great nonetheless, mostly because while they take much of the Bible as literal truth, I have been able to find some good in ther as well. I read the bible (actually I haven't read it in years) like Seuss or Aesop. The stories can serve readers better if not taken as literal truth imo. The only problem there is that the "moral" so to speak" is not individually gleaned via the text, but rather someone else (clergy) that interperits the "moral" for you tells you what you should think about a particular story. O.k. enough about that. Anyone else have any ideas about good books to inspire Obama durring the inauguration? Hemingway maybe, "The Sun also Rises". Good **** and bull story anyway. ![]() |

He is displayed as a Christian to America and Europe but to the third world he is presented as a Muslim. So i think he should put both hands on the Quran and the Bible at the same time and raise his left leg. Then be sworn in, either that or combine both books into one and create the Qible or Buran. Then he only has too use one hand. A quick question, what secret society is Obama apart of?

![]() The hypocrites they dare to call "the God of Abraham" one and the same God as "the God of Abraham" !!! That kind of blasphemy must not hold ! You're right my friend, and everyone should know it, Muslims and Christians are just not the same people !! We should forget about silly old Abraham whose wisdom not only brought forth the 3 religions in this world that together make up the majority of mankind. Silly Abraham who also made a pact with God for all of them. Everyone should finally understand that xenophobia is our GOD GIVEN RIGHT!!! If God had wanted us going across the globe making friends with everyone he would have sent us someone to tell us to do that.... I Have Learned So much from God That I can no longer Call Myself A Christian, a Hindu, a Muslim, a Buddhist, a Jew. The Truth has shared so much of Itself With me That I can no longer call myself A man, a woman, an angel, Or even a pure Soul. Love has Befriended Hafiz so completely It has turned to ash And freed Me Of every concept and image my mind has ever known. Written by Hafiz, a Persian poet from the 14th century. Translated by Daniel Ladinsky Let those who have ears hear! |

I'd just like to add that in the UK Parliament, the boxes which you might see the Prime Minister rest his documents on.....is full of bibles.
![]() The unspoken assumption is 'swearing on the bible'. or 'all words spoken here are in truth'....well.....who knows ![]() I'm for the Green Eggs 'n' Ham option. It would be more honest, perhaps. ![]() The point I'm trying to make is that it is rather irrelevant. He will do as well as he will do. What he is sworn in on is no longer particularly relevent to his real consciousness within the world. Last edited by Allie; 11-10-2008 at 07:42 PM. |

However if you check the wiki link, it does indeed seem that Giesel wrote Yertle w/ facism in mind. Quote:
This is not a bad thing though, as I will pose that subconsciously, Suess may be part of the reason that you are here (i.e; Suess taught children at a very formidable age that fascism is unjust). |
