Legislation Alert: California REAL ID
September 17th, 2008 by Matt Hawes

SB 60, the Real ID Act of 2007, recently passed the California State Assembly (it passed the California Senate in 2007). This act would bring California driver’s licenses into compliance with the REAL ID Act of 2005, which essentially mandates national id cards for all Americans. (If you’re unfamiliar with the REAL ID, check out Dr. Paul’s comments from 2005 here and here.)

Governor Schwarzenegger has until Sept. 29th to veto SB 60 before it becomes law. It’s been great to see states like Montana stand up to the federal government and oppose this national id, and it would be an incredible victory for the liberty movement if Governor Schwarzenegger would veto this bill.

But he needs to hear from the people of California. So if you’re out in the Golden State, contact the Governor and urge him to reject SB 60. Check out his contact page for phone numbers, fax, and email.

Default Re: Legislation Alert: California REAL ID

They already merged all of us into the National Database run by Homeland Security last fall, major glitches with other states overriding the system and records no longer available in California to clear things up.

No one knows of the problem until they go to DMV and find out they are not eligible for renewal...

an understaffed department of the government being made responsible for information tracking and punishment...

no court order required to destroy someone's life...

yeah, its a great idea...
