I can understand your concern, Baggy. The one thing I don't have is a fence (or a weapon), and I can see the place for one (or both). We don't have cougars (that I know of), but we do have other things that prevent me from letting my kitties out during the day or nite.

Oh yes, you do have cougars, as well as coyotes and black bear. Don't ever doubt it. I've seen two young cougars and one black bear run across the road in front of me in the five years we've been here. One of the cougars was in a suburb on the outskirts of Lacey.
The bear was on range road at Ft Lewis. We had a bull elk answer a hunting call our second year here. He came clip clopping down the road and into our open gate. He was so heavy our deck was shaking five hundred feet away. Scared the **** out of my son who was blowing the call on our deck. We could hear him, but never saw a thing. (that pitch black again). His dying rabbit sounded like an elk cow in heat!
