That community aspect is what we have sadly lost and many know nothing of today. No need for insurace when my parents were young. If your house or barn burnt, all the neighbors came and built a new one in a few days time. Stores were shared, what was done was a kind of neighborhood insurance.
If someones dinnerbell rang at an odd time for long and panic like you would go to see what was wrong even when I was a child. Someone needed help so you went.
My Dad often said you plant rye in the fall, its a good soil rejuvinator after wheat and corn. He loved the look of a well tended farm and i often think he missed that life in his middle years. He was a grand man.
