Yes, the device looks very reminiscent of the anti-matter device spoken about it the book and soon to be released movie Angels and Demons.

The plot basically revolves around the Illuminati getting revenge with the Vatican when they steal an anti-matter device which was created secretly at CERN by two if its scientist, a father and daughter team.
