I was intrigued when I saw the preview for that show, so I googled "the new Nostradamus" and came up with Bruce Bueno De Mesquita, and his Rational-Choice theory. It's pretty interesting stuff actually...and very 'sensical' from a sociological standpoint.
He recently co-authored a book with none other than Condi Rice.

His theory basically says that people are predictable...so much so that he wrote software to prove it. He's also getting very rich plying his new found 'trade'.
Definitely worth a look.
