That's the only way I can think of now to create a (pseudo) monopole magnet. With a triangle shape and shielding on four side, there will be very little surface area for flux to flow from the top of the pyramid.
Tom Bearden mentioned that by introducing asymmetry in magnetic field, one can harvest energy from it.
