From the quote above, it's important to note the difference between many different types of "fluorides".

Fluorine is a very reactive element and usually exists in a form bonded to other elements.

Eg- Calcium fluoride, Sodium Fluoride etc.

Calcium fluoride is the type commonly found in rocks.
Sodium fluoride is commonly found in toothpaste.
Hexafluorosilicic acid is what is added to mains water.

It's important to know the difference.

The first one your body can handle quite well in small doses.
The second one your body can cope with provided you are only exposed to it very rarely and in tiny doses.
The third will kill you.
