You can't have a smooth transition. People would have to be beaten up enough to want to transition to something new. They would have to have lost all faith in our current system and have such resentment for it that a new bartering type of system would be a welcomed approach.
Now if we did transform into higher beings and were able to self heal, we wouldn't
need our current system.
