Having spent many years living in Hawaii, I met and worked with a lot of native Hawaiians. Their history has been thouroughly scrubbed clean to portray them in a certain light. A few will admit it - but most won't because it isn't politically expedient.
The 'beautiful' and ancient Hawaiian culture that is so 'prized' was actually a cruel dictatorship where the very few enjoyed everything and the masses had little or nothing.
One example: The average Hawaiian wasn't even allowed to go to the beach (under pain of death). The beaches were reserved exclusively for royalty.
Their religions were cruel and they practised human sacriice.
Haven't ever met an aborigine though.
