There is more then enough evidence to show, for those who are willing to really look, that the Bible is a "watered down" patriarchal version of an ancient truth.

Exoterically speaking it is arguably the greatest book ever written, but it's done much more harm to us as a species then good, as was its intention. If you take it allegorically it has a whole new meaning, but even then it is still missing many truths that have been known since olden times.

I would highly suggest reading it regardless.
