I hit the library the other day and found a VAST amount of books about how to build rustic retreats, log cabins, traditional native shelters, and "green" homes. They varied in just about everything imaginable, but most of the books had actual plans for some of the homes featured. Two of my favorites so far are "Building Green" by Snell and Callahan, and "The Passive Solar House" by Kachadorian.

But I had to laugh... in one book "Build Your Own Log Cabin" by Paul and Karyn Pfarr from 1978, it lists the cost of nails as being 45-65 cents per pound!!!
