Blufire - It was not my meaning to insult you nor your american pride.
As for my poor grammar - I am a swede. Swedish is my native language. If that makes me ignorant, falling on my own trap - one point for you then. It saddens me very much if you believes that by mispelling a few words, you might disrepect my opinion.
Although I am a Swede, I do live in a pretty americanized country, and in the Western Hemisphere. We are thus both westerners - and as you might also have read in my post - I did include westerners as a whole (or was that lost in my poor english? must make myself much clearer then).
If I should pick one typical bad habit of US today is the aggressiveness - the drift to immediately attack at full speed ahead when feeling distressed or insulted or whatever - like you did to me...dissing me on the behalf that I have enrolled as a researcher. All cannons ahoy! On the other part of that line we all know what lies, don't we?
If one reads anything from ordinary news magazines to independet internet sources it really is striking how poor the education level in US (AND in almost all western countries) has become.
The point I was aiming at with the TED Talks Link - did you see it, or was it too provocative? - was that the US news covarege...coregvage...coverage...really, really is twarted. The death of Anna Nicole or the skin of Britney or American Idol gets by far more news percentage that any foreign story - 10.000 dead children in Africa is not worth writing about.
And in this respect - a people that really don't have access to information and is by the common news sources just is fed glamour and idiot superficial info - are very clearly being dumbed down. Sweden as well as US.
Sweden on the other hand has no nuclear weapons (US has over 50% of all military forces in the whole world (conventional and nukes)). Sweden has no lust for forcing unwilling countries into their version of "democracy and freedom". So the turnout of dumb swedes is really not that troublesome as of your country.
A dumbed down people will not ask questions like: "Why does tens of thousands of Iraqi children have to be hurt and killed to revenge the bombing of two buildings and a few thousands business men/women, when there where no links between the hijackers and Iraq?". A dumbed down people will go gung ho to anywere to protect their "interests", disrespecting all other cultures on the way. And don't humbly respond to a little bit of critique.
Bluefire: If you really would like to counter my statement, you should do it with counterargument that is around the topic. Not trying to diss me as a person. Make points not war. Show us that most americans really aren't that sedated!
Respectful and humbly, albeit mispelled, regards from Sweden

Not to mention I find it ironic that an individual from Sweden is condemning “most” of an entire nation. Also you speak of how “dumbed down” we have become and you misspell the word “raised” not to mention use poor grammar.
You speak of ignorance breeding fascism. I grew up in the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern part of the US and we have always been branded is an ignorant people. The wisdom of the people in this area is profound but we are “ignorant” because we do not conform to what the “normal” definition of society deems progressive.
Most of all the point that truly disturbs me is you are a “Project Avalon Researcher”? I am becoming more and more troubled by what I am seeing here on this forum. If someone as you that holds a very important position on this forum and are responsible for bring forth important research material and this is what you come up with then I am greatly troubled.
There seems to be this overall general opinion on the forum that we are somehow better, enlightened, and more intelligent and wise than the rest of the population of the world. Well you know what . . . . ignorance breeds fascism.
