I would like to recommend the old-fashioned way of "meditation" and "quiet contemplation", followed by a few tai chi or qigong exercises to get your chi going and your pineal gland activating as well.
In my case, my pineal gland as well as my "third eye" got activated "accidentally" while studying pranic healing which is the art of healing using the body's natural energies. Similar to the 5,000 year-old Chinese concept of energy passing through several pathways or "meridians" in the body.
Just keep on meditating. These things take time. And if you're not seeing visions after a few weeks -- which I believe is a by-product of these exercises -- at least you can have a quieter, more placid mind after all those meditations.
Sometimes, the use of crystals may help in meditation. But I would recommend this only to the more advanced meditation practitioner, as some crystals' energies might block rather than enhance your capacity to activate your forehead chakra energies.
