There are many strange patches on GoogleEarth, and they change over time as the program is updated. It's plain that some areas are censored. New Orleans doesn't show any signs of Katrina. Cuba is a complete patchwork. Greenland is the same.

Some of this is, I believe, the result of mosaics being assembled from the best shots selected from many different satellite passes. Some of it may be digital noise picked up in the transmission from the satellites. I seriously doubt any of it has anything to do with cloaked spaceships, but what do I know?
