If you have only just become aware of all this that's happening, then it must be pretty daunting for you.
May I suggest to you that you be aware also that there is a lot of disinformation 'out there' also and that you have to be discerning in all the things you read/hear, trust your instincts.
If you are a "gullible fruitcake", then you are in very good and distinguished company.
There are many pragmatic and wise people on this forum, and 'fruitcakes' are few.
