I dont know how, why, or when these ideas get into our heads but there is the concept of "think only pleasant thoughts about the future and whether they come into being or not, life can still be enjoyable. But if you think unpleasant thoughts, pray to God they don't come into being."
The moral of that then, is don't dwell too long on the unpleasant as by doing so, it could come into being and stuff it up for all of us.
