Hi TPFolder,

I wouldn't say I have stocked up on food yet, at least not in huge quantities. I find myself in an interesting position - likely many others are in a similar situation. My "significant other" thinks that most of the worries about the economy, etc are blown way out of proportion. My impression is that he thinks things are in very bad shape, but not extreme (as in economic collapse).

I think anything is possible at this point. The things we are seeing played out re: oil and the situation with the American economy I first heard about two years ago on various whistleblower video clips. At the time, I thought, "Wow...that's kind of frightening"...but 2008 seemed far away. Then earlier this year when gas prices started going nuts, and especially seeing the events of the past few weeks, I guess you could say I find myself far more open to some of the "wild" predictions I've heard/read about online for the past two years.

I am slowly getting things together I need, but not in a way that will draw attention or ridicule from those around me. New glasses, good new pair of sneakers, a bulk order of beeswax candles. I also have places several large orders for sprouting seeds from this Canadian company:

http://www.sprouting.com/

They ship quickly and the customer service is excellent. The sprouting seeds are easy to store and a batch can be grown to eat in a matter of days. (I recommend also buying a few hemp sprouting bags - I found mine on eBay.ca for a reasonable price - or a larger sprouting tray).

Am also buying things like oatmeal, lentils, canned fish, honey, etc.

How about yourself? How have you approached this?
