Default Re: Looking for some first steps..

I second WhiteCrow regarding dumping the mainstream media crapola. I 'divorced' my TV 4 years ago, and it was one of the best things I have ever done for myself.

Another good first step is to learn some sort of chi/prana-moving technique, like various kinds of yogic breathing or visualizing a chi-gong 'great circuit'. Then when the stress starts to mount, the technique can be recalled. Because it has 'steps', the mind has to focus on those steps (and has to 'watch' the body do them), and it breaks the previous focus on the agitation and/or depression. While it takes a bit of practice at first, eventually one can get to a point where an incoming stress actually triggers remembering and performing the technique before the anxiety or depression can even get in the door. This pays big dividends because not only does it immediately still the mental hamster-wheel, it also keeps one's central nervous system from being constantly smacked around by stress-hormones.

Peace,
