I think something similar happened with the 9.0 Christmas quake and tsunami. I recall also reading how the earth also continued to shake or vibrate like a bell with different types of smaller quakes around the globe. Most people have forgotten that it was Chilie's 9.2 quake in 1960 that took out most of downtown Hilo, Hawaii in a massive tsunami.

Somehow I expect we are going to seen a continued increase of massive earthquakes in the next few years.
