Prepping does not have to be fear based. To those that have an idea of how things will play out, and have an idea of the mode in which they are able to work in that environment will prepare.

The spectrum of different approaches is very wide: from the transcendent (who don't have to do a whole lot, except perhaps think properly) to the hard-core survivalists who are ready for anything that the 3D world can throw at them.

My own take is that it is worth considering your response and preparation for social upheavals and inconveniences. It cannot hurt. However, doing it out of fear does hurt and will probably just make things worse.
