Yes, I'm heading west of the Blue Mountains too. We (my mum and I) drove up around northern NSW, through Drake and back down the New England Hwy from tenterfield to armidale. I lived in the mountains just out of Drake for several years - the altitude at the spot i was being only 300 metres above sea level- off the grid - and there are a lot of rednecks there too. ( i actually think it may be too low an altitude to be in reality.
I am presently in Bonalbo, and that is at 170 metres, too low again, and have been looking at the same areas around the Glen Innes to Armidale region which is about 1350 to 1440 metres - and yes i am being cautious too, maybe over cautious - maybe not.
