Their criticizim made me feel the message they prefer their followers not get, is that we all have the ability to telepathically communicate with nature, and that nature knows more than the Vatican ever could.

Obviously Vatican hipocracy is displayed in their objections to Avatar and their opinion it was about nature worship. Even if it was, its a hell of a lot better than idolitary worship they encourage. To top it all, their followers are expected to worship a brutaly murdered Savior.
