I've known this for at least 12 years! xray/radiation is cumulative. Mammograms do not save lives. Sure, you might know you have cancer sooner but survival rates do not improve.

From my own research I knew that around 90% of lumps are fluid filled cysts, so when I found one in my own breast yrs ago, I asked specifically for a sonogram, a relatively inexpensive test to first determine this. It was a b*tch overruling my doctor wanting me to have a mammogram, however, he arranged for it. When I arrive at the appointment for the sonogram, they had me set up for a mammogram, which I objected to... had to "go the rounds" w/the nurses shaking their heads at my indignant refusal.

As I suspected, it was a fluid filled cyst, which I self treated w/bio-identical progesterone... it was gone in 2 months.

When I got the bill for the sonogram, they charged me for a mammogram and a couple of other tests that their computer software program spits out automatically for all we "cows" they run through there... I was so exasperated!!!

I phoned and mentioned that i was charged for tests which were not performed, and without even checking my file, the lady said she would adjust it!!!

So now, here we are with the latest "official news" when yrs ago I watched a congressional hearing where it was admitted that mammograms do Not saves lives.... "but since it was the best thing they had going for screening, they will continue"...<<< hello???

I really suppose that this announcement comes in line with the health care reform..< they now don't want to pay for a useless test.... I shake my head.
