Denmark Dolphin & Whale Slaughter
Readers, this is a copy of a email that a fellow reader of this site sent to the Danish Embassy in his country regarding the Dolphin and Whale Slaughter in the Faroe Islands (a part of Denmark). With Rodin's permission I am printing the email exchange here. I want to note that the "facts" given in the Danish response are almost exactly what the Japanese say to support their whaling. The slaughter of dolphins and whales is unnecessary, and considering their high intelligence level, wrong. Please email the Faroe Islands authorities and also the Danish authorities (the Embassy in the nation where you live). If sufficient pressure is put on them we can force an end to this slaughter. Stirling
Dear Lord Stirling,
In accordance with your link about the butchering of the whales on the Faroe Islands, I sent a mail to the Danish Embassy in my country. Hereby you'll find the answer. I love to hear what you think about this.
Kind regards,
Rodin

Concerning protest about catching of pilot whales in the Faroe Islands
The Royal Danish Embassy has received your e-mail where you express your feelings caused by mail you have received which has contained selected pictures from the catching of pilot whales in the Faroe Islands. The mail may have been accompanied by inflammatory comments, and ludicrous assertions, such as the hunt being some sort of ‘adulthood ritual’.
We take note of the fact that you have found the above mentioned pictures, and the accompanying text, disturbing. However, before passing any judgment one will need to supplement a possibly negative aesthetic first hand impression, and inaccurate information received, with considerations of the real facts of the matter as well as of a number of issues of principle.
Facts about the Faroese pilot whale drive fishery can be obtained from the homepage
www.whaling.fo. The facts include the following:
· The purpose of the catch is to produce food,
· The hunt is regulated by the authorities,
· The catch is biologically sustainable,
· The authorities take the animal welfare aspect of the hunt seriously.
The Faroe Islands have autonomy within the Kingdom of Denmark. The islands are not included in Denmark’s membership of the European Union. Affairs regarding industry, agriculture, the environment, fishing and whaling, are subject to Faroese autonomy.
If you, after having acquainted yourself with the facts of the matter, should wish to address the Faroese authorities regarding pilot whaling, the relevant e-mail addresses of the Faroese Government are
mfa@mfa.fo and
fisk@fisk.fo;
