Yes, the people 2000 years ago were so much more open and enlightened than we knuckle draggers of today! Here here, just come out, tell the people who have worshipped an Unseen God, Angels, and feared demons that these beings are from those dots in the sky and took some body tissue mixed it with theirs (sorcery) and made humans. That some of them look like large bi-pedal iguanas, and others like an assortment of beings, yes, that would have gone over, well, like a LEAD balloon!
Come on, Paul can't even talk about sex openly in Ephesians 5, Moses can't talk about sex openly in Deuteronomy (some still think to look upon your father's nakedness is terrible and don't know that it means to have sex with your father's wife), that Ezekiel spoke of an encounter with a UFO by using COMMON every day language of a wheel on it's side that when it when up the people in it's eyes (windows) went up! HOLY COW... a cart wheel that fly's on it's side, how unique.
I used to be a major bible thumping christian (born again recovering Catholic) and I have wrested with my indoctrination for years. I have always loved God, never understood mean and selfish people, forsook a worldly career after graduating from university and studied the bible, Torah, Tanach, Midrash, Targum, Hebrew, Greek, and Chaldea for some 8 years. I've read all of AW Tozer's works, many of Watchman Nee, EW Bullinger and Messianic Judaism. I witnessed Demons, performed exorcisms, baptised too many to count, led many more in salvation prayer, and performed healings all as a vessel of God in Jesus / Yeshua's name. I say I did these things, but I take no glory for it was by the Divine love of God that all these things happened and at that time were for a Divine purpose. Why do I share all this with those here who have a definite desire to see those of us who do not fully embrace the bible as defacto truth in all it's words? Because, I think there are definite problems in how the God of the OT acts schizophrenic compared to the God of the NT.
Yes, there is great spiritual truth in the bible. I do believe in much of it's prophecy, but at the same time from my long arduous studying it does show a message that has been twisted in some places. Truth is truth no matter the age it is given. There are too many examples particularly in the OT of a God who is cruel, evil, uncaring, sadistic, and blood thirsty that are the complete opposite of an unconditionally loving God who is no respecter of persons in the NT.
Maybe you are just sharing your beliefs, but it has a distinct flavor of proselytizing to me. I don't think that the people here who have devoted years to their spiritual paths, studied as intently in esoteric areas and ancient history are going to be lulled into following the idea that we have just got to re-read the bible and accept that we don't understand how important it was to kill all the animals, to rape the girls, kill all the children in order to protect the weak stiff necked children of God who were hell bent on not following all his demands.
