Re: need help with arthritis..
Something else that I personally have found to work very well is an herb called Cat's Claw. There are two different varieties of it: one is called Uncaria tomentosa and the other is Uncaria guariensis. The one you want is Uncaria tomentosa, so make sure that if you buy capsules at your local health food store, that the Cat's Claw you buy says 'U. tomentosa' somewhere on the label.
Cat's Claw has been the subject of several medical studies with osteo-arthritis patients, and it turns out to have serious anti-inflammatory properties. There have also been tests done on animals, and the herb is in veterinary use. In its native setting (the Amazon Basin), it is used for many different types of inflammatory conditions, including arthritis and urinary tract infections. I started taking it because of an injury to the thumb on my right hand, and it worked so well that I started giving to my aged (14 years old) dog, whose back legs are rather 'creaky' these days. It has made a huge difference in her range-of-motion, so I'm not the only one it's working for, and animals are not subject to the placebo effect, either.
In addition, I second what others have had to say in this thread about Vitamin C, anthocyanins (the anti-oxidant pigments in cherries, pomegranates, blueberries, etc.), and Flax Seed oil (Omega-3 fatty acid). Omega-3 oils are also anti-inflammatory as well as being brain-protective.
I have also had personal experience with acupuncture, which I have found works very well for a number of different things, but it does usually require a series of treatments. It also has been employed in veterinary medicine with good results, so again, said results can't have anything to do with a placebo effect.
I am also adding you to my 'send healing energy to' list, so when I meditate, I will be sure to send something your way.
Peace,
Martian Tigress
