Re. things financial:
This time last year I was shaking my head at all the fake shock and amazement coming from official circles. The guy who's financial writing I trust the most had been yelling
"Get out!" re. stocks, and warning of the imminent devaluation (then collapse) of the dollar since at least Aug. of 2007. And explaining why.
Not only was he right,
Gary North is still right. He's using the very un-prophetic method of simply assuming we're atop a house of cards, then "predicting gravity". Can't hardly go worng with that, it's just that few do it.
In my opinion, his best qualification is the fact he isn't "selling something". Ok, he is, but... besides the long list of
free columns you can find at the link above, he maintains his own site. Now, in all this financial stuff there is nothing more unhelpful than a stopped clock. There are hundreds of places on the Net where you can find "financial advice" with hordes of "experts" telling you
"The sky is falling! Sell everything! Buy Gold!" But when you dig a bit you'll find that, yup, 99.9% of them are selling.... guess what....
GOLD! (You'll also find it's the
only advice they've given for over 50 years... stopped clock)
Gary North is only selling one thing on his site: his advice. Which means "campaigning" makes no sense as it destroys "his product". And he is no fool. He makes his living by being right.
While I'm at it, if you havent read Matt Taibbi's Rolling Stone article
The Great American Bubble Machine I recommend it. To see how all this
has been manufactured, not just now, but
several times, is an eye-opener.

On a personal note:
The last year has taken it's toll on our household. A year ago both the wife and I were working. We haven't since May 1st. Having spent out IRA on house payments, since then, a kind thought for something breaking in that area would be appreciated.
Posting to forums isn't as easy doing it from the "big cardboard box next to the pay phone".
