Oh my this resonates for me and in a beautifully weird strange way! My name is Steven Haefner but with musician friends of mine in the Minneapolis area i lived in most of my life (i'm near Detroit presently) i was nick named Huga (HOO-gah) and the reason is far from spiritual. Haefner (HAYF-ner) is similar to Hefner, yes like Hugh Hefner the publisher of the magazine. And in high school and this is 78-81 Carter>Reagan days and we had bands (i'm a guitarist but played bass in most of my bands) smoked pot etc. Imagine That 70's Show crossed with the Monkees. Anyway, i was called hugh hewey etc but we also had this thing of pronouncing words as spelled so getting high was getting higgah or heeged they'd call me hyuga and eventually huga. But yeah as a mantra it makes so much more sense than om, although i'm sure om is good too.
