It's much easier to do this when the guest does not talk for five plus minutes. He also hears the host trying to make a statement and shuts up, then addresses their comment.

It takes both a congenial guest as well as host for this to flow as nicely as this interview did.

Re-listen to the show, and see what I am saying about flow of CONVERSATION. Cliff shut up when the host started talking, and she shut up when he came in to answer.
