Re: Obama is a fraud
Since people asked me to explain why I have tried to defend Obama in countless threads, I feel that it's time for me to set the record straight.
Obama is neither anti-christ nor savior. He is simply playing a part and one of the good things about this part is that he has gotten the attention of people from all walks of life, whether they hate him or like him.
One of the positives of Obama being in office is that it has helped people realize that we need to move beyond dependence on political figures to "fix" the problems out there.
One of the negatives of Obama being in office is that he has brought out the worst of our fears, hence the increase in gun sales and hate groups across the U.S.
He was not my first choice for the Presidency. It was either Kucinich or Edwards and when both proved to be unelectable (though it's not Kucinich's fault that he couldn't get the audience that Obama got), I settled for Obama.
I intially liked him because he talked about things that I wanted to see and I still want to see (transparency, a return to diplomacy/rejection of Bush's policies, single-payer health care).
Fortunately, I *DO* agree that he has reneged on some (possibly all) of these promises. That is what politicians do. To expect them to keep their promises, is to expect them to create a miracle. It just won't happen.
It's not too late though. However, I must move on. I will do so in a positive manner. I will accept that he is not who I thought he was and come to terms with the fact that the time to move on has already passed.
The way I view it, it's better to have given someone a chance than to not have given them a chance at all.
I hope this answers the question that some have asked. I'm not perfect but I'd prefer that this be the last thing that I have to say on Obama unless I can continue to come to terms with what I'm seeing. It could always be worse and I could resort to far worse behavior and I used to be a regular at a left-leaning website that would shout down anyone who didn't support Obama. I've seen over time that it simply isn't a healthy approach and I no longer post there.
