Looking West over Lago Grey, Torres del Paine, March, 1997.
The relentless Patagonian wind parks icebergs along the edges of Lago Grey.
These icebergs calve from glacier Grey, a minuscule offshoot of the massive Southern Icefield (
Campo de Hielo Sur)
that pervades the peaks of South America's Andes mountain range in Patagonia.
The Icefield is over 350 km long, with a mean width of 35 km and average ice thickness greater than 1 000 m.
