I think now that the "National Service Corps Bill" is a generic term and not a specific piece of legislation, because a
NY Times blog
article by Kate Phillips references the name in the title to the article ("National Service Corps Bill..."), and it in turn links to another
NY Times article entitled "House Passes Expansion of Programs for Service," which is about the GIVE Act, the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, not an act called the "National Service Corps Bill." (I guess another clue is the use of the word "bill." The official name would say "act.")
Anyway, this article says that an almost identical Senate version of the act called the Serve America Act was slated to be adopted the following week. This was back in March. I see the
last activity for S. 277 Serve America Act was also back in March.
Since the GIVE Act (clever that the name of the bill forms this acronym) has become law, I guess the Senate version will simply be designated as "dead" at some point. I will continue to track it.
