If he/she is drinking lots and in discomfort please see your vet asap.
My lovely olde chap had this problem, and we had to 'rescue' him from unusually drinking neighbours ponds, from under hedges etc when he really was a home-bod.
Our olde cat is now at peace, and we have 2 more 'rescued' cats - both with very different personas - Mr 'Totally Laid Back' now (after years of him scampering miles away, but he now loves home very much and has many beds in the house), and my gorgeous wee chap rescued from RSPCA with the most beautiful eyes ever, the most loving wee boy who snuggles to us every day.
Dear Burgundia - I do hope furry-person gets better, but PLEASE let us support you if puddy cat decides to go to a better place.
