Gold and Silver only have intrinsic value for uses in Electronics, Arts, and whatever else for UTILITY.

You can't EAT the Gold. If it should come to pass, a nuclear exchange will make all electronics equipment suitable for use as Boat Anchors.

Invest in thing that will have Intrinsic Value in the eyes of others with whom you might wish to trade. Hunting Equipment, Ammunition, Food, Survival gear, Solar Power generation equipment, &c would be at the top of my list. Use your own imagination, ask around = What HAS intrinsic Value to you, to your neighbors?
