And to clarify my post, when Tolle says die before you die, he means you overcome the ego while still in embodiment and realize there is no death.
You stay here, you're still you, but you just no longer operate under the illusion that you are totally separate from the source and other life, you remember your spiritual Self as an individualization of the infinite rather than completely separate from it.
Tolle claims that this has happened to him, and I agree that it has... it's not about losing your body, just your issues! So my point is, death is an illusion, and once we conquer the illusion, by overcoming our egos, there is no more death... even in this life.
When you overcome your ego, and then later consciously ascend at the end of your embodiment, you don't have to do this all over again, you ascend to a higher realm where you don't keep being born and forgetting and dieing again. You've earned your birth as a permanent spiritual being.
But from what I understand, you can send parts of yourself down to continue the adventure should you choose...
