One can feed a dog a vegetarian diet but with cats there may be a problem. A cat's body doesn't produce taurine; a cat gets it from meat. Dogs, like humans, are able to produce taurine in their bodies. Howeve nowadays they probably have vegetarian cat food with taurine added to it.
