Maybe these questions are why China began taking an interest in the dark side of the moon in late 2007 too? It kind of culminated with that fake Pentagon satellite shoot-down story in Feb 2008, which was more likely a US-to-China military bicep flex.

"Chang'e-1, named after a mythical Chinese goddess who, according to legend, flew to the moon, blasted off on a Long March 3A carrier rocket at 6:05 p.m. on Oct. 24 from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in the southwestern Sichuan Province."
