Default Re: Has Avalon been hijacked by the right-wing noise machine?

Good observation. I prefer to look at this subject from a different angle. It's not Obama pro vs Obama con. It's that there is alot of frustration, fear and worry bouncing around these days and it simply just has to go somewhere. Meaning it has to be expressed somehow. And usually it's a public figure that becomes the focus of this attention - in this case Obama.

I was at a newstand yesterday and glanced across the headlines. It's so telling as to the 'tone' of mass-consciouness. On one end of the spectrum was a shirtless picture of Obama in Hawaii with the headline that his gay tendencies have sent Michele Obama reeling. On the other end was a Moses-like homage.

I know the goal there is to sell publications, but it's just showing how we feed and create our cultural icons to satisfy our need to express our emotions in the reaction to our reality. Sometimes I feel that if some where to realize this, part of that energy would transform to adding more to the solutions rather than the problems. Not intended as a backhanded 'blame' statement, just an observation.

As far as Avalon hi-jacked, no I believe all opinions and points of view are relevant - regardless of whether they align with mine. It is by mixing it up here that we explore our preferences and map out who we are becoming.
