One of the most important weapons of a politician is keeping information supressed.
It's highly likely that the people behind the government have all the proof they need to disqualify the US president, but don't need to use this proof as long as the 'big picture' is going as they wish.
I say 'highly likely' as here in Brazil, politics is far more primative and the to-ing and fro'-ing of the politicians are far more obvious than over there in the States, or UK. There was one Senator here that kept information and if ever he needed to use it as a weapon he would give up a little. His adversary would get the message and then toe the line. This Senator, who has since died, was one of the most powerful in the Brazilian government, some saying more powerful than the very President.
So I think it's a good possibility that if the US was to miraculously start to come out of this crisis and the road ahead was not the road that the people behind the government want, they would simply 'discover the truth', create the crisis and oust the President. That would create a political turmoil so huge that te US will collapse around your ears, because it would deem EVERYTHING that had happened since the beginning of this year to be nul and nobody could be held responsible for anything they would have done....
Politics is a very dirty world.
