My husband and I had to break down and buy a TV this year, as we are in the film business and not watching movies was getting in the way of work. So no cable, we unplug it when we are not watching a DVD, and we cover the thing with a big blanket to keep out the bad vibes. This seems to be working. We do not watch regular TV and have not for many years. This has helped us maintain our sanity.

Taking the battery out of your cell phone also is a good precaution.
