Default Re: "Leased?" Ir-33 destroyed

Hi Henry Deacon,

Firstly, it's good to 'see' you back on the forums. Your health must be getting a little better.

The satelites crashing could have been merely an accident, however, both were relatively old satelites, the Russian one apparently decomissioned and the other around ten years old.

It doesn't seem that one nor the other veered off track and it's interesting that neither side appears to be very upset about the incident. Normally at least one side would try and cry 'foul'.

The collision occurred above Siberia, which is a remotely populated area, a sort of mid Pacific Ocean - where they tested nuclear bombs - only in space, clear sky for observations.

I understand that the US will create an explosion on the moon later this year, also using older equipment, as NASA says in search of water to justify the building of a moonbase there.

Could it be that these actions are related, or just happen as par for the course? Is it a common occurrance for satelites to hit each other - the fact that it isn't reported in the press doesn't mean to say that it never happens?

Could it be that both companies just wanted to get rid of old equipment? Did the telephone company need to upgrade their equipment anyway?

Is, or will there be a clean up of old satelites to make room for more powerful ones? Is it the first tentative efforts to create a new Star Wars program?

I suppose only time will tell...

Best regards,

Steve

It may take a Month to move a backup into the same orbit as Number 33. - poss use in ɪˈręk, remote polar sites, etc. and for alt-route OTH "" data links.
